Sonic Boom announced for Wii U and 3DS
Sega have shown the first footage of Sonic Boom which will be the last of the Sonic triple Iwata promised as exclusive to Nintendo platforms.
Based on a forthcoming Sonic Boom TV series little is really known about the game itself but it does seem to steer well away from the traditional running of the better Sonic games – something that worries us a little. Along with the titular hedgehog Amy Rose, Tails and Knuckles all feature heavily leaving us to speculate that this is a character and story driven piece. Again, something we worry about – Sonic’s universe of characters are, on the whole, terrible.
A lot has been made of the pedigree of Wii U developer Big Red Button. It is known that they’re formed from ex-Naughty Dog staff but its worth remembering that these guys would have formed this new company way before the dizzy heights of Uncharted 3 and The Last of Us; we feel these guys will have had more experience with Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Dexter – games we’re not overly impressed with here. We’re sounding like right party poopers aren’t we? It’s not all bad though, some of the environmental design looks superb and it will be interesting to see what they do with the franchise.
